As an ex-smoker you will be forgiven for thinking that I would welcome a ban on smoking in enclosed public spaces. For sure I will enjoying coming home from a night out and not smelling like an ashtray. I will savour being able to taste things, and not having a sore throat.

So why is it then that I'm feeling like sparking up as the deadline looms.

I remember the satisfaction that the first tab of the day brought. With a cup of strong coffee in one hand and the sweet aroma of lung destroying chemicals in my nostrils I felt ready to take on whatever the day could throw at me. I have tried to make use of "healthy alternatives" in the morning such as: cornflakes, toast, or fruit but none of them give me that kick in the arse that I need inorder to have a productive day.

This is something that the health police just don't understand. The feeling you get when your cravings have been satisfied is unsurpassed by anything else. It is a pleasureable experience that smokers cherish and look forward too each day. People who have never smoked will have no idea what I'm talking about.

If the health police were truly serious about improving the health of the population they would be trying to close down mcdonalds and forcing obese people to take excercise. Or they would be increasing the tax on alcohol. Lets not forget that there are currently more people in their mid twenties turning up to hospital with liver related complications than at any other time. This is surely because alcohol is getting cheaper by the day and the government seems unwilling or unable to tackle the binge drinking culture. It's a bit of a cliche to say that other contries don't have this problem - and to an extent it's true.

Ive enjoyed a drink this lots of different people from around the world and have noticed that the British love to get absolutely hammered far more reguarly than anyone else. I can remember when my foreign companions would trot off to bed but I would always stay for one (or more) last drink. It would go on till the early hours if there was another brit present.

I've forgotten the point I was trying to make and have instead just rambled on aimlessly.

The point: Banning smoking is only paying lip service to the health problems of Great Britain.

Right, I'm going for a nicotine patch

Until I think of something else......

Should I slate the rest of the world from the safety of my keyboard, or should I promote peace love and understanding?

Should I just jot down any random thought that comes into my head, or should I plan every entry?

Will anyone be interested?

A little about me perhaps?

Well I'm me and for the time being will go by my adopted name. I actually found this the hardest thing to decide upon as I didnt want to be mrman69 or blogwriter27 or some other alpha numeric amalgamation. I'm completely baffled by most things In this great land, especially after living abroad for a considerable length of time. My homeland seems to have changed beyond all recognition. Well, except for Tetley tea bags.

You can probably tell that I'm really struggling for things to write, so I will bid you farewell for now.

I promise to write something of substance next time!!
